Beat the 4 Peaks


Generally, a tourist who wants to reach any peaks must make a trip per a peak. However, it's quite different for Khao Luang Sukothai. It takes abount 3-5 hr for a distance of 4 km to walk up there. When you get to the top, there will be a conqueror's sign, saying "1,200 meters from sea level." At this spot, you're on the top of the mountain. From this point, there are connected paths to the other 4 peaks at 4 directions The distance between each top is not too far away. The 4 peaks are:

- Narai, this peak is about 400 m. away from the shelter. At the crack of the dawn, the figure of a beautiful dolphin-shaped stone on the cliff will be gradually revealed by the first light. If you climb up the stone and look below, you will see the extensive view of Sukothai. The Narai Peak is 1,060 m. in height.

- Phu Ka, late in the morning, go for a walk to Phu Ka Peak which takes about 2,220 m. You will pass by virgin forest during the way to the peak. A broad view of 360 degree can be seen from this peak. You can see the scenic dense forest up to the farmland far away.

- Pra Mae Ya, take a walk from Phu Ka for about 200 m. and you'll get to Pra Mae Ya. This is the highest peak of Khao Luang Sukothai, which is at a height of 1,200 m. from sea level. A nice veiw can be seen from all directions. In addition, you can see almost the area of Ramkhamhaeng National Park at the side of Khirimat District and Muang District this is the highest spot.

- Chedi, since the old days, visitors who came here has laid some small stones on the ground. Gradually, they form a huge outstanding piled stones of pagoda- shaped. From the Chedi Peak, take a look to the north and you'll see the 3 peak; Phu Ka, Pra Mae Ya, and Narai line up beautifully. When it's getting dark, turn on you flashlight, walk back to yuor house and happily let the gently cool wind blew against you.

How to get there :
From Sukothai City, go along Highway No.101 and turn right at km. 414 for 16 km. to Ramkhamhaeng National Park Headquarter.

Where to stay & Where to eat :
Accommodations are provided under a shelter. Tourists can also brought their and bedding facilities. Public toilets are provided nearby the camping site. Tourists should prepare sufficient foodstuff with them.The bungalows at the foothill is not very popular as most of tourists like to go up the mountain. Contact the National Park Headquarter for a porter. The Program is for 2 day and 1 night stay.

Location : Khon San District, Nong Bua Daeng District and Kaset Sombun District, Chaiyaphum Province.

- Phu Kheaw is a rich forest where located high mountains that originated many main streams, such as, Phrom Stream, Lam Sapung Stream, and Chi River. Many big beautiful caves can also be found. The forest on the mountain are of various kind, no less than elsewhere.

- Poo Nau Shrine, Second lieutenant Sanau Ketsiri was a pilot officer and once lost his way while flying his plane at Phu Kheaw. His plane's engine got some problem, however, he managed to land on the ground. All the passengers survived without any injured, except for Sanau, who died in the accident. The villagers, built this shrine and the spirit of Poo Nau were invited to remain there. It is believed that his spirit would protects the village from danger. The shirne was regarded as the sacred place for the villagers ever since.

- Thung Kamang is a vast grassland of about 5,000 Rai, locates in the center of Phu Kheaw. It features a natural grassland on high and low hills. Surrounding Phu Kheaw is a virgin forest with the alternation of pinery, Hiang, and Kor. Number of wildlife such as, barking deer, and deer roaming around the area for their food can often be seen.

- Bueng Pan has almost the same nature as Thung Kamang. However, it features a flat grassland on a low plain. It covers about 4,000 Rai and is the home of many animals.

- Phrom Stream is a winding stream in Phu Kheaw Wildlife Sanctuary. Its main stream are Dad Stream. Along with the area around the Phrom Stream are stone ground, called Lan Chan, and Wang Nam Luek, which is quite shady beneath the tree of various sizes.

- Phu Kink is a vast grassland of about 1,500 Rai on the edge of Phu Kheaw. Phu Kink is a high and steep cliff which is very beautiful. The cliff can be used as the route from Phu Kink to Bueng Pan. It is the premise where you can find a number of beautiful variety plants and wild animals.

- Pha Tevada is a range which is composed of many mountains connected together for about 6 kilomaters. The cliff is about 1,000 meters high above sea level. Pha Tevada is of white color similar to limestone. The cliff is the origin of Chi River and also the home of many wild animals as, bulls, bears, deers and wild elephants.

From Chaiyaphum City, go along Highway No.201, then ture left along Highway No.2055 and turn left on "Khon San Khuan Chulapon" route to Phu Kheaw Wildlife Sanctuary Headquarter.

Its trunk is about 1 feet high. The red buds will all lean over as the wind blows. What adds the charm to the Kra Jeaw is the white mist that cover all over
the green field. The weather is so freshy cool.

- Phu Pang Hoei Ridge : After taking a look at Kra Jeaw, Let's walk up to Pang Hoei Cliff to see the view of Lopburi Province. There's an overhanging cliff at the edge of Khao Pang Hoei. You can see a very extensive view if the mist is not too thick.

- Pa Hin Ngam Garden : One of the most astonishing nature of Pa Hin Ngam Nationnal Park is its Rock Garden which covers the area of 200 Rai. This Rock Garden consists of many weird shape stone. Some look like UFO, while some has the shape of animals.

  • Pa Lad Waterfall, generated from the limestone cliff. It has 7 levels and locates in the milddle of a thick forest, favoring a traveler who is fond of trekking. Traveling to the Waterfall is quite convenient.
  • Khao Ya Viewpoint is a well-know tourist attraction, as it is where Khao Ya Royal Palace located. It is the viewpoint from where one can admire sunrise, and take look at the colorful night-light from the town of Phetchabun.

How to get there : Starting at city of Phetchabun Province , go along the Highway No.21 (Phetchabun - Lom Sak route) for about 28 kilometers, Arrive at Ban Bung Nam Tao, which is at km 250. Then, turn left towards Ban Bung Nam Tao- Thung Samor route in Khao Kor District for about 4 kilometers. And turn left leading to Thanthip Waterfall Park, which is about 1 kilometer away.

Keaw Cave :
Keaw Cave is around 13 kilometers away from Headquarter. In the cave you will see beautiful Stalagmite and Stalactite.

Sai Cave :
Sai Cave is another beautiful cave in this area. It is in "Kung Ta-nod" village, 9 kilometers from Headquarter. You can park the footthill and walk further for about 280 meters.

How to get there : From Prachuap Khiri Khan, go along highway No. 4. When you pass Kuiburi District for about 6 kilometers around at , turn right at the intersection near "Sam Rong" house and drive for about 14 kilometers.
